Dying Fabric with Kool-Aid

So I realized last night that I didn't have a blog post for today, so I stayed up late last night dying fabric with kool-aid and vinegar. It was so SMELLY! Ugh. it was horrible and I kept breathing in the steam. It was like breathing kool-aid powder. How icky. But it did turn out cool, so that is all that matters. I made some pretty bracelets actually.

Here is what I did: For every packet of kool-aid use 1/4 cup of vinegar. Bring to a boil and simmer with the fabric in it for about 5-10 minutes, depending on what you want your fabric to look like. I only kept mine in for a couple minutes, maybe 5, because I wanted light colors. Next time I am going to leave it in there longer.

The brown fabric that I had didn't dye so well, but I think it would be better if I left it in the simmering mixture longer. I braided the strands of fabric and sewed elastic to the ends. I did finish two of them last night, but I think my sister took hers. She is going on vacation with her beau for a couple days.

And so this post is now done. :) Have an awesome Tuesday!

  1. Do you think there is any way to... effectively... silk screen with this? I wonder if there is any way to dye a pattern into some fabric using this.
